Thermocouple & RTD MI Cables are manufactured in Imperial and Metric sizes.
Spandan MI Cables manufactures and stocks a wide range of thermocouple & RTD in both Imperial (inches) and Metric (millimeter) sizes. We have a world-class manufacturing plant for producing a wide range of Mineral Insulated Cables (MI Cable), and metal-sheathed cables. MI Cables can have various applications such as in blast furnaces, atomic research, nuclear reactors, kilns and many more. We provide high quality and custom-built cables as per the customers’ needs/ application requirements. We are capable of providing flexible lines that allow us to meet our customer demands.
One or more wire-like conductors (cores) are embedded in a high insulation quality magnesium oxide (MgO) and pressed into a metal tube (sheath) made of oxidation and corrosion-resistant material. The entire combination is then processed using suitable forming steps to obtain the final dimensions. Due to good flexibility, excellent mechanical strength, and pressure resistance mineral, insulated thermocouples/RTD’s can be installed in complex installations. We provide standard as well as custom-built cables as per the customer need/application requirement. We have flexible manufacturing lines which are set up to meet custom demands.
Features of MI Cables
- Mechanical Strength: The High Mechanical Strength of MI cables can be attributed to the compact structure of MI cables. Our cables consist of densely packed insulation material (MgO), with a tough metal sheath which firmly places the conductors in the compound. The bending radius of our cables can be 3 to 5 times the diameter of the outside radius.
- Long Life: The manufacturing of our MI cables is done in a way that ensures long conductor life due to the sheath and insulation present inside the cable. These components help the wire withstand harsh environmental conditions. This additionally aids in accurate calibration.
- Corrosion and Scaling Resistance: MI cables manufactured in our facility are corrosion and scaling resistant. They can withstand harsh environmental conditions.
- Long Length: We provide long lengths of MI Cables which were not available in the past.
- Quick Response: Quick heat transfer takes place inside the MI Cables due to its high thermal conductivity and small mass. These features assure a fast response.
- Radiation Resistance: The radiation resistant feature of our MI Cables is a boon in an application which involves high radiation. These are widely used in the primary circuits and inside the core inside the reactors.
- Safety: The MI Cables are fire-resistant due to the use of insulation materials such as MgO. These cables are highly recommended from a safety point of view.
- Moisture/Pressure: The homogeneity in the metal sheath helps the cable to tolerate high external pressure by not allowing the flow of the majority of liquid and gaseous particles.

Thermocouple cables
Thermocouple cables are manufactured using seamless metal tubes (sheath), crushable (Magnesium Oxide) MgO, and conductors. This process includes drawing which compacts the MgO and anneals in an inert environment after every draw.
It meets the requirements specified in ASTM E585/E585M and IEC 61515, internationally recognized standards. EMF output meets or exceeds as per ASTM E230/E230M and IEC 584. Thermocouple cables are specifying accuracies as “special”, “standard”, “class 1”, or “class 2”.

RTD in both Imperial and Metric sizes
Spandan MI RTD cables are meeting or exceeding requirements of E2821. There are few more standards apply for raw materials and testing-like E780-17 for IR test, E1562 for MgO and Al2O3 crushable insulators,B329 etc. We meet or exceeds all international standards applicable.
Normal Sheath material for RTDS are SS316 and INC600. Conductors can be copper, Nickle or Nickle alloys.

Custom cables for special applications. We will work with you closely.
We have engineering capabilities, test equipment, procedures, and experience to design custom cables for special applications. Multiple trials and validation processes will be necessary to verify design performance. Please contact the Sales department for additional assistance.
